The Canon PowerShot A1100 IS replaces the previous A1000 model in the company's lineup, and is based around a 1/2.3" 12.1 megapixel CCD image sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor, and a Canon-branded 4x optical zoom lens. The A1100 IS's lens offers focal lengths ranging from 35 to 140mm equivalents, and features true optical image stabilization. Maximum aperture varies from f/2.7 to f/5.6 across the zoom range, and macro focusing is possible to just three centimeters.

As well as a true optical viewfinder, the Canon A1100 IS includes a 2.5" LCD display with 230,000 dots of resolution. The maximum image dimensions are 4,000 x 3,000 pixels, and 30 frames-per-second VGA (640 x 480) movie recording is also possible with the Canon A1100. Sensitivity ordinarily ranges from ISO 80 to ISO 1,600 equivalents, and can be extended to ISO 3,200 equivalent in a high sensitivity scene mode. A built-in flash strobe is rated as good to 13 feet (4 meters) at wide angle, and 6.6 feet (2 meters) at telephoto. Images and movies are stored on SD cards, and the Canon PowerShot A1100 draws power from two AA batteries.

Motion Detection Technology
Motion Detection Technology uses a range of advanced methods to ascertain movement of both camera and subject, plus the speed at which this motion occurs. The optimum ISO is then automatically set for any situation.

Auto Red-Eye Correction
Face Detection Technology is used to accurately detect and remove the red-eye effect caused by flash photography. This function can be performed automatically by the camera or manually in playback.

DIGIC 4 processing
Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor drives responsive operation, superb image quality and colour reproduction. Advanced Noise Reduction ensures richly detailed, cleaner images, even at high ISO speeds.
